The 2nd Athens Leather Weekend took place last weekend, 20-22 November, and our own experience as well as comments we received from people who attended shows that it was a great success! We had international visitors from the UK, Germany, Israel, France, Italy and Belgium and local guys joined us just as much from Athens as well as from other areas of Greece, like Thessaloniki, Irakleio, Ioannina, Kavala and Kozani.
The social event at Big Bar Athens was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the weekend, as we had many more guys there than last year, including new faces interested in finding out more about the leather scene and how it is slowly developing in Greece. We would like to thank a lot Christos and Yiannis from the bar, for their support and hospitality during that event as well as the farewell drinks of Sunday night, which we had in the same venue.
Another highlight was the event at the currently most trending queer club of the town, Smut Athens, where members of our group and visitors for the weekend mingled with regular attenders and other visitors in a much more inclusive and diverse event. Smut is a club that paves the way for a type of nightlife that is only emerging in the city and its success and popularity are only signs that the Athens crowd is receptive and willing to welcome this type of nightlife. Again, we are very thankful to AJ and Stavros for their help and support during the organisation of the event. Smut has a strict policy of not allowing photography indoors, which we respected of course, so we can only include a post promo of the event here.
The daytime events also were very successful, even if less busy, as tends to happen. It was great to have brunch with a view of the Acropolis at Voilà All-Day Bar on Saturday morning and get to know visitors better over a coffee and delicious dishes – many thanks to Marios from the venue for helping with the booking.
That was then followed by a walking tour of the touristic centre, with our own Menelas as an unofficial tour guide who gave a lot of information about the city’s history while walking around the rock of the Acropolis and the surrounding area. Sunday daytime was great too, even if with fewer people, as many had to leave town to return home for work the following day. We had great food at The Rooster’s Egg and then coffee at Blue Parrot in main square of Metaxourgeio.
We therefore have only fond memories of the event and would like to thank all of you who supported the event either with your presence and attendance or some other way. The timing and dates of the event worked really well, as there were no clashes either with other major leather weekends abroad or with local major events in the city, so we will keep the same weekend booked for next year: 21-23 November 2025. It may be way too early, but do add it to your diaries!
Quite a few guys approached us and said that one year is just too long to wait and they want other similar events, sooner. So we are starting a series of – monthly or bimonthly – events at Big Bar Athens, with the first one being on Friday 20 December 2024. Hopefully these will become regular nights, but it all depends on you and your willingness to join us and attend them.
Hope to see you there then!
