NEXT WEEK: 6th Athens Porn Film Festival

We hope this email finds you well. We are writing to you with regard to this forthcoming event run by one of our community partners, Satyrs & Maenads. The Athens Porn Film Festival returns for its 6th edition with 4 days of screenings, events, and parties. The festival is a celebration of art and sexuality held at the venue of Romantso on 8-11 May as well as online on 16-29 May. Attracting filmmakers and artists from around the world, Satyrs & Maenads presents over 110 films depicting sex — from the metaphorical to the hardcore — with aesthetics, narratives, and performers you won’t find in mainstream porn.

The four-day program is packed with films and many events, such as The Ranch Hands Party at Alexander Sauna, Cunty Cubs Night organized by the queer party icons Strap-On Unicorns, following a screening of the best Queer and Trans shorts of the year, and Philosophy in the Boudoir Night, which combines a BDSM film screening with an all-night party featuring DJ Mugiwara.

Daytime activities include the Erogenous Circles Workshop, the Porn Bazaar (a creator’s market) which this year will run throughout the entire festival on the first floor, interactive talks about new sexual video platforms, and the Porn Academy Workshop — a hands-on training in creating art-porn for local budding pornographers, led by the German studio Fucking Conflicts, who will also present the films produced by this year’s Academy. We are fully supportive of this event, not only because of events such as The Ranch Hands Party and Philosophy of the Boudoir, but also because the daytime events include the world premiere of a documentary on one of our members, Nikolas:

For the opening film, the festival has secured The Visitor by the controversial punk director Bruce LaBruce, produced by A/POLITICAL. The film premiered last year at Berlinale and has been screened at many international festivals as well as at the Athens International Film Festival. After the screening, there will be a Bacchic Initiation Ceremony followed by the Balkan Brat Party with DJ Lockbird and a special appearance by drag queen Aphrodite HGW.

As every year, the festival embraces the spirit of hospitality by inviting a foreign film festival to curate a special screening. This year’s guests are the Porn Film Festival Amsterdam, who will present local films and talk about the challenges sex work is facing in Amsterdam. Festival director Menelas Siafakas, queer filmmaker and activist known for his provocative events and exhibitions, admits: 'I’m really excited about the program we've put together this year and the two new parties'.
